As I write this message, I am optimistic that the cloud of uncertainty posed by the COVID 19 pandemic will continue in the current trend reversing the consequential effects of business and social upheaval that has gripped our nation in the past 16 months. More locally I am encouraged to note that prospects for a successful year ahead recently improved with news of IMA’s decision to allow in-person events beginning on August 1. Council planning is now in full swing for our annual conference being held at the Norwich Inn in Norwich, Conn. for September 12 – 14. This is the NorthEast Regional Council signature event that will pack in 19 hours of CPE along with endless professional networking opportunities.Taking a longer view, the Council has developed a 3-5 year strategic plan and objectives for this plan are in development. We are planning to allocate more resources for regional chapter support to better coordinate and promote chapter initiated activities and to build in some financial incentives - including scholarships. A renewed vigor in engaging academia – for both students and faculty - is also in active discussion. The main objective, of course, is to grow our membership: by encouraging students to pursue the management accounting profession as a long term career choice; and to provide existing professionals a forum to continue to seize the multitude of career opportunities the profession offers.Mark Judge, PresidentNorthEast Regional Council
