Using Benchmarking to Set Performance Standards

Course Description:

This session will explore how management accountants can incorporate process and costs benchmarking to set performance standards and goals. In the session, the principles of benchmarking will be explained and their applications to management accounting discussed. The session will discuss the differences between cooperative and competitive benchmarking and how different benchmarks such as cost, time, and performance, are used. Practical applications of benchmarking and outcomes will be used to demonstrate how to incorporate benchmarking into management controls.

Mr. Erik Glitman,

Speaker Bio:

Mr. Erik Glitman started Fletcher/CSI in 1988 and currently serves as the company’s Chief Executive Officer. He has been active in the competitive and strategy consulting field since 1986. Mr. Glitman has extensive experience working with clients to help them gain competitive advantage and insights in the marketplace through the integration of qualitative and quantitative primary research focused CI. As a pioneer in the fields of Win/Loss, Primary Intelligence, Trade Show Intelligence, and Effective CI, Erik has led and completed annual surveys on best practices in Win/Loss, Effective CI, and leveraging Trade Shows for CI.

Erik is a regular facilitator at Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP.ORG) workshops on competitive intelligence including full day sessions on Win/Loss, Setting up the CI operation, and Scenario Planning for CI. With a regular blog on CI, he provides the market with insights into the ethical practice of CI. He authored a regular column on global CI for the Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP) magazine until 2008 when he was elected to the SCIP Board of Directors where he served from 2009 to 2012. He was an adjunct instructor at Champlain College (Burlington VT) between 2001 and 2009 where he instructed a course on global competitive intelligence.
