President's Message

President’s Message:

Presidents Message April, 2022.

Our council held the Student and Professional Conference on Saturday, April 2. I am pleased to report that we had a great turnout. The session was very interactive - the speakers and panel participants were engaging and provided conference attendees with keen insights and practical career advice. We are grateful for the support of Dr. Sandra Richtermeyer and UMass-Lowell for the sponsorship provided for this event. We are also encouraged at the prospect of holding this event next year and in future years given the positive feedback we have received so far.

April 23rd will be here soon enough when, in Worcester, Mass., we will be hosting an education session on the topics of Cybersecurity and White Collar crime. The NorthEast Regional Council’s final quarterly meeting will follow during which time we will elect the new Council Board for 2022-2023 year. I encourage those of you who are interested to reach out to a council member to learn more about our organization or, better yet, attend either a quarterly meeting or educational event that we sponsor. These events are regularly announced in the NERC website.

Also fast approaching are the various chapter centennial events that I have previously mentioned. The Boston Chapter is celebrating its 102 year anniversary at the Newton, Mass. Marriott on Wednesday, April 20. The Hartford chapter will be celebrating its 100-year anniversary at the Hawks Landing Country Club in Southington, Conn. on June 8. As a reminder, please make it a priority to register for these special events on the chapter websites.

Also be sure to keep September 18-20 open for our upcoming annual Fall Conference, being held at the Nashua, New Hampshire Marriott. The council will be celebrating its 50th anniversary during this conference. Interspersed with 19 continuing education hours will be a mix of professional networking opportunities and entertainment. As has been the tradition, the conference will close on Tuesday with a raffle. Please look for the save-the-date notices will be mailed out in the next few weeks. I hope that you will register to attend this conference to see first-hand what the NorthEast Regional Council offers.

On a personal note, I will be stepping down as Council President after this year. It has been both an educational and personal growth experience for me. My introduction to the Council was through the annual conference that I began attending over 10 years ago. This has been a very positive experience made possible by the friendships I have made with every member of this organization. I would be pleased to pass this experience on to you – IMA members, students, and other accounting professionals. Opportunities abound for you to be involved with the council and its chapter affiliates.

NorthEast Regional Council
