President’s Message:
As 2023 comes to a close, I wanted to share the highlights from our year and encourage you to get involved in 2024. Providing quality continuing professional education sessions, networking, and leadership opportunities is the prime mission for the council and our local chapters. To that end, NERC delivered in spades. We held Saturday morning CPE sessions in February and April covering sustainability, cryptocurrency, and cross-cultural relations. We held two conferences during 2023. The first, in April 2023, was our third Student Conference at BayPath University. Over 50 students came to engage with a panel of professionals on what a career in accounting and finance is like. The second conference was our annual NERC Fall Conference. It was held in September and was a smashing success. Over 80 IMA members from across New England, New York, New Jersey, and even Ohio earned over half of their annual CPE’s by attending this conference. Attendees were able to hear from speakers on a wide range of topics, see old friends and make new friends in an elegant setting near Newport, RI. [Read More]
As we go into 2024, I would like to encourage each of you to see if you have a few hours a month to help either your local chapter or NERC. While IMA Global is professionally staffed, local chapters and US councils are run by volunteer members. Our local chapters need your help if you have even just an hour or two a month to help. Volunteering for your local chapter can help you round out your resume or give you a chance to expand your skills (run webinars, plan events, design marketing materials, be a webmaster, etc.).
I have found my 8 years of volunteering with first the New Hampshire chapter and then NERC to be challenging and rewarding. I encourage you to get in touch with your local chapter or you can contact me if you’d like to be involved with NERC. Volunteering with the IMA will give you the sense that you are helping others and are truly part of a global community.
